- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf11) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on June 26. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on July 1, and to all Wikipedias on July 3 (calendar).
VisualEditor news
- Context menus in VisualEditor will no longer flicker and disappear when you insert a new reference, formula, image, etc. [1] [2]
- A bug that prevented relocating items due to cache was fixed last week. [3] [4]
- VisualEditor will no longer scroll to the bottom of the page when you try to edit section 0. When you try to add a formula, VisualEditor will no longer scroll to the top of the page. [5] [6] [7] [8]
- Links to category pages or file pages added with VisualEditor will now work correctly. [9] [10]
Future software changes
- You will no longer be able to upload files on wikis that do not have any copyright tags. [11] [12]
- Toolserver tools will be stopped on June 30. Please make sure to change gadgets that link to the Toolserver to point to Tool Labs instead.
- CirrusSearch will be enabled on June 30 as the primary search method on 34 new wikis, including the Czech (cs), Danish (da), Finnish (fi) and Hebrew (he) Wikipedias. [13]
- All Wikimedia wikis will be using a security method called perfect forward secrecy starting on July 1. If you see a problem, please report it. [14] [15]
- Starting on July 1, it will be possible to globally rename global (SUL) users. [16]
- You will soon see block information when you visit the contributions page or try to edit the user page or user talk page of a user who is affected by an IP range block. [17] [18]

- thanks for adding the link to http://www.gahetna.nl/over-ons/open-data but I fear this is not enough: please note that they write Een groot deel van dit materiaal is beschikbaar als open data met een open licentie of verklaring. – "Een groot deel" meaning "a large part". This means that some, but not all pictures are in the public domain or licensed under a creative commons license. If a file is "free", this is noted in the meta data, an example can be seen here – note the green circle to the right of the example picture shown there. the image in question is missing any evidence of a CC-BY-SA liocense or a public domain mark, so as far as we know it is still copyrighted. So unfortunately, I'll have to re-nominate this file for deletion (but I'll make it a "regular" deletion request instead of a "speedy" one to give some other peope the opportunity to share their thoughts about this). --El Grafo (talk) 15:23, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Recent software changes
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf12) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on July 3. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on July 8, and to all Wikipedias on July 10 (calendar).
- CirrusSearch was enabled on July 1 as the primary search method on 36 new wikis, including the Norwegian (no), Portuguese (pt) and Ukrainian (uk) Wikipedias. [20]
- It is now possible to create Atom or RSS feeds for Word of the Day, Word of the Week and similar entries on Wiktionary wikis. [21] [22]
- You can now use a graphical interface to edit TemplateData information on the English (en), French (fr) and Italian (it) Wikipedias. [23] [24]
VisualEditor news
- Saving an edit with VisualEditor will now be much faster. [25] [26]
- You can now add a caption when you add a file to a page with VisualEditor. You can also change the file to a different one and keep the existing caption. [27] [28] [29]
- When you switch to the Edit source tab, you are now asked to keep your changes. You no longer need to find the option in the menus. [30] [31] [32]
- The reference tool that adds empty
<ref></ref>tags is now at the bottom of the Cite menu, below references that use templates like{{Cite web}}. [33] - Context menus will no longer be shown over items that you can edit directly, for example formulæ. [34] [35] [36]
Future software changes
- Starting on July 9, it will be possible to globally rename global (SUL) users. The feature was first scheduled for July 1, but was delayed due to bugs.
- A plan to enable CirrusSearch as the primary search method on the 11 largest Wikimedia wikis has now been prepared. [37]
- If you use references on a page, you will soon always see them at the bottom of the page, even if you forget to add the
<references />tag (or a template). [38] [39] - Black-and-white XCF images will soon display correctly. [40] [41]
- Description pages of SVG files will soon always show download links for multiple resolutions (example). The links were previously shown only for SVG files in large original resolutions. [42] [43]
Problems
- Between July 2-3, there were problems with loading pages on multiple wikis due to a configuration issue. [44] [45]

If he (or she) agrees to release the image under a free license, he must send an email with a permission to our support team. - ich hatte das wegen [67] für eine Urheberrechtsverletzung gehalten. File:Konstanze Krueger1.JPG hatte ich leider nicht bemerkt, genauso wenig wie die vorhergegangene Löschdiskussion. Das ist ärgerlich, wo ich doch eigentlich immer auf Sorgfalt bedacht bin, aber bei der riesigen Anzahl an echten Urheberrechtsverletzungen, mit denen wir hier zu kämpfen haben, bleibt es wohl nicht aus, dass man manchmal daneben greift. Recent software changes
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf14) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on July 17. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on July 22, and to all Wikipedias on July 24 (calendar).
- CirrusSearch was removed as the primary search method from Wikimedia Commons and the Spanish (es) Wikipedia due to a high server load. The plan to enable it on the Dutch (nl), Japanese (ja), Polish (pl) and Russian (ru) Wikipedias was also postponed to a later date. [68] [69] [70]
- The tool that stores information about languages (CLDR) was updated to its latest version. You can still help translate language names into your own language so they can be used in the sidebar and other places. [71]

VisualEditor news
- Tablet users visiting the mobile version of Wikimedia wikis will be able to use a special version of VisualEditor starting on July 31. You can test the new tool by choosing the beta version of the mobile view in the Settings menu. Feedback is welcome. [75]
- All windows in VisualEditor have now a new design. Main action buttons will always be located in the top bar and will use simple words rather than icons. [76]

You asked about {{Anonymous-EU}} with regard to Spain. The relevant portion of the law is this:
Los derechos de explotación de las obras creadas por autores fallecidos antes del 7 de diciembre de 1987 tendrán la duración prevista en la Ley de 10 de enero de 1879 sobre Propiedad Intelectual.
Shortened translation: The rights to works by authors deceased before 1987 will have the duration in the 1879 law.
This rule does not seem to make any difference between authors who are anonymous and authors who are not anonymous, so it seems that the term in the 1879 law also applies to anonymous authors who died before 1987. In the 1879 law, I only find one term, life+80 years, so I would assume that this term applies to all works, even if the author is anonymous.
I think that it is a bit problematic to use a term based on the death year of the author if the author is anonymous as the only ones who might know the identity normally are the heirs of the author. These can then sue someone for using the work and present whatever evidence of authorship they have in court. There is a similar problem in Germany, where some anonymous artworks are protected for a term of 70 years from the death of the anonymous author. See de:Anonymes Werk (Urheberrecht)#Frühere Rechtslage in Deutschland/Übergangsrecht. Thanks very much for your concern, the image uploaded is my own artistic rendition realized at "low resolution" and recolored applying yellow, cream and Khaki beige filters, it is indeed based on a previous older image that was already available in the public domain as {{PD-Italy}}. Please dont delete it.

Hello there, I've uploaded two SVG files which I edited based upon w:Dogecoin official logo, Dogecoin is a cryptcurrency open-source project released under MIT license[151], its cofounder ummjackson released the original files under Creative Commons Attribution license[152][153], however a user nominated them claiming copyright violation. Recent software changes
- You can now test a new Beta Feature to see links to other wikis in the sidebar. The links come from Wikidata. [154] [155]
- You can now search pages that link to a page. Use the
linksto:keyword in your search. [156] [157] - A redirect to a section now changes the URL in the address bar of your browser. If "Dog" redirects to "Animals#Dog", you now see "Animals#Dog" instead of "Dog#Dog". [158] [159]
- If you are testing Flow, you now have a Flow tab in your Notifications. It is called "Messages". [160]
VisualEditor news
- You can no longer delete required fields in templates. [161]
- We fixed many Internet Explorer bugs. If you use Internet Explorer 11, you will get VisualEditor next week. Support for earlier versions is coming next. [162] [163] [164]

- We fixed a bug where some of your typing could be undone when you used "cut" (Ctrl+X). [166]

Recent software changes
- You can now change the style of links to disambiguation pages. This is done with the
mw-disambigCSS class. [176] [177] - There was a problem on right-to-left wikis with Wikidata log entries. The text was messy in watchlists and recent changes. The problem is now fixed. The same problem will be fixed soon for user names. [178] [179] [180]
- New users are randomly chosen for a test on 12 Wikipedias. They get messages with ideas of articles to edit. The ideas come from what they have already edited. [181]
Problems
- There was a problem with loading images on September 10. [182]
VisualEditor news
- If you don't select text when you add a link, the link now shows a number. [183]
- The citation tool no longer offers to reuse a citation if there are none on the page yet. [184] [185]

Problems
- There was a problem on the English Wikipedia on September 19. It was due to edits on a template used on many pages.
- Sites were down for users in the Pacific area around 7:00 UTC on September 20. It was due to a problem in the San Francisco data center.
- There were two bad bugs messing up articles in some browsers in VisualEditor. We fixed the bugs and updated the sites. [191] [192]
Software changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf22) is on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since September 18. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis on September 23, and on all Wikipedias on September 25 (calendar).
- If you have more than 2000 notifications, the oldest ones will be removed.[193] [194]
- In the "Vector" skin, the icon used for users will show a neutral gender. [195] [196]
- The VisualEditor template tool now tells you if a required field is missing. [197]
- The "Cancel" button of the VisualEditor save window is now called "Resume editing". This shows that you can still edit and you won't lose your changes. [198]
- There are new keyboard shortcuts in VisualEditor. Use Ctrl+Shift+6 for

Hi El Grafo,
I saw the post COM:VP#Angel's Logo.png flagged for deletion by El Grafo and it appears that Demetrius Guidry had re-uploaded File:Angel's Logo.png as File:Angel-sessions-logo.png. Even though Guidry is claiming to be the copyright holder, I am not sure if he should have tried to do without following the steps you laid out in your reply to his post. Any suggestion on what should be done in this case? For what it's worth, he seems to want to use the file in en:Draft:Angel Sessions which he has submitted to be added to Wikipedia. The draft has already been declined once and, based upon his post at the Village Pump, it appears that he has an obvious conflict of interest and is trying to create an article about his wife. This means there is a good chance that the draft will be declined again. I am not sure if any of that has a bearing on whether the photo should be allowed to be uploaded to Commons, but it might indicate that he is not too familiar with the policies of either Wikipedia or Commons. - Marchjuly (talk) 11:59, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Marchjuly, thanks for the update. The file has already been deleted by User:INeverCry. It's quite possible that Demetrius Guidry didn't notice my answer at the Village Pump, so I've left him another message at his Wikipedia talk page (mainly to avoid accusations à la "you deleted my file and didn't even notice me"). As long as he doesn't provide a permission via OTRS, his files will be deleted. If he does provide a permission but his draft gets declined, one could think about whether the files are still within COM:SCOPE. --El Grafo (talk) 18:14, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

- The new version of MediaWiki (1.25wmf1) is on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since September 25. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis on September 30, and on all Wikipedias on October 2 (calendar).
- Errors from Scribunto (Lua) are now shown on the page. Before, you had to click on "Script error" to see them. [206] [207]
- You can add an "autovalue" for a field in TemplateData. When users add the template to a page, the value will be added automatically. An example is when a clean-up template shows the date it was added. [208]
- If you change a user preference but don't save it, it now asks if you want to save it. [209] [210]
- The PDF export tool has changed. The new one has better language support but it doesn't offer ZIM and EPUB formats. [211]
Future changes
- You can watch a video showing Phabricator, the new tool to track bugs. You can also read more about the move from Bugzilla.

- You can look at Special:MediaStatistics to see what kind of files are on your wiki. [217]
- A new tool can now create thumbnails of large TIFF images. This concerns files larger than 50 megapixels. These thumbnails are also sharpened. You can comment on Commons. [218]
- The Media Viewer tool has a clearer link to the file page. It also has buttons to download, share and embed the file. You can enlarge images by clicking on them. [219]
