Giving credits

Hi, you changed information regarding "creator" on this image file:NaCl polyhedra.svg.
I reverted that but added more info regarding the source.

The source (PNG) and the image I created (SVG) is two completely different things. I clearly and accordingly to what is common here stated that I made that SVG as a derivation of the PNG. I have no added the creator of that PNG but to me that is not necessary as that information is available on the PNGs information page.
I have never ever tried to claim any original creation of that image, I just put out information that I created the SVG which is a completely and separate thing from the PNG.

We both mean to give credit where it should be but to me the two images are living there on lives as long as you state the source for the derivative work. --always ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 10:11, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, maybe think about it like this: If somebody reuses this file outside the Wikimedia projects it will be most likely you and you alone that is being credited. If you view the image on Wikipedia through the default media viewer, your name will be the only one shown. You can absolutely do that from a copyright perspective (the original is in the public domain after all). But it is morally and factually wrong. You share the authorship with Solid state, so you both should be in the author field. This kind of sloppiness is indeed common at Commons, doesn't mean you should follow it. --El Grafo (talk) 06:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
